Cooper King Distillery is a self-built, crowd-funded distillery in Sutton-on-the-Forest, York, producing sustainable spirits distilled with craftsmanship, honesty and adventure. It’s the first in England to produce net zero energy whisky and the first in Europe to join environmental initiative 1% for the Planet.
The distillery is run on 100% renewable energy with a strong focus on sustainability. The team work closely with Yorkshire farmers, growing heritage grains and they've opted for lightweight recycled glass bottles. They even fund rural UK apprenticeships for every bottle sold.
Founded in 2016 by Dr Abbie Jaume, a former scientist and Chris Jaume, a chartered architect, the venture was inspired by travels to Australia and Tasmania where they honed their craft at distilleries.
The Cooper King Distillery is based 10 miles north of York and is named after Chris’s adventurous great-great-grandfather, Charles Cooper King, whose family has rich historical ties to Yorkshire dating back to 1030.
