"The Dissertation" The Oxford Artisan Distillery Rye Whisky
This unique whisky has been crafted by using two very distinct casks as well as a differing mix of grains.
A Ramandolo cask (a sweet Italian wine) was filled with 100% Rye Whisky alongside a traditional American Oak Cask which was filled with the distillery's traditional mix (approximately 70% rye, 20% wheat and 10% malted barley). The combination of the two blended together has helped to produce a distinctive flavour and colour profile.
An attractive floral nose sits alongside tropical fruit together with herbs and citrus — orange peel in particular. The classic pastry, toasted nuts and spiciness is still there, but there is an additional layer of floral fruit all the way to the finish. A really elegant rye whisky.
The organic heritage grain was grown in sandy soils just 7 miles from the distillery. This included multiple ancient heritage rye strains, wheat strains and even some oats and a few thistles! This mix gives the whisky its unique, signature flavour.
The distillery’s grain actually improves soil health in the English countryside - it is grown specifically for the distillery, making The Oxford Artisan Distillery the only distillery in the world with a license to use these strains of heritage grains, farmed exclusively for flavour and not volume of crop.
